Mission Planning & Operational Design Advisory Unit

Translating strategic intent into coherent operational designs and executable mission plans.

Unit Mission

The Mission Planning & Operational Design Advisory Unit supports the development of operational plans and mission designs that translate strategic objectives into coherent, executable courses of action. The unit applies structured planning methodologies — including mission analysis, course of action development, and synchronisation matrix construction — to produce plans that are feasible, acceptable, suitable, and distinguishable, and that account for the full range of threats, constraints, and contingencies in the operational environment.

Key Functions

Mission Analysis

Conducting structured mission analysis to define the problem, identify constraints and restraints, establish planning assumptions, and frame the operational environment — providing the analytical foundation for course of action development.

Course of Action Development

Developing and wargaming multiple courses of action against the most likely and most dangerous adversary responses — evaluating feasibility, acceptability, suitability, and distinguishability to identify the optimal plan.

Plan Production

Producing coherent, executable operational plans and orders that synchronise all elements of the operation across time, space, and purpose — and that include clear decision points, branch plans, and contingency actions.
