Environmental & Climate-Driven Security Risk Team
Assessing how environmental degradation and climate change translate into security threats and operational risk.
Unit Mission
The Environmental & Climate-Driven Security Risk Team analyses the security implications of environmental change — including resource scarcity, sea-level rise, extreme weather events, and ecosystem collapse — and their role as threat multipliers that exacerbate conflict, displacement, and state fragility. The team produces climate-security risk assessments, integrates environmental data into broader threat analyses, and advises on how organisations can adapt their operations and strategies to a changing physical environment.
Key Functions
Climate-Security Analysis
Analysing the pathways through which climate change and environmental degradation translate into security threats — including resource competition, displacement, agricultural failure, and the erosion of state capacity.
Operational Impact Assessment
Assessing the direct operational impacts of extreme weather events, sea-level rise, and environmental degradation on infrastructure, logistics, personnel safety, and programme delivery.
Adaptation Advisory
Advising on strategic and operational adaptations that reduce exposure to climate-driven security risks — including site selection, logistics diversification, and long-range scenario planning.
