Unit Mission
The Crisis Communications & Media Relations Advisory Unit provides specialist advisory support for the management of communications during crises — helping organisations communicate effectively with media, stakeholders, and the public while managing reputational risk and supporting operational objectives. The unit develops crisis communications plans, prepares spokespersons, and provides real-time advisory during active crises to ensure that communications are accurate, timely, empathetic, and aligned with the overall crisis management strategy.
Key Functions
Crisis Communications Planning
Developing crisis communications plans that specify messages, spokespersons, approval processes, and channel strategies for communicating with different stakeholder groups — ensuring that communications are prepared in advance and can be deployed rapidly.
Media Management
Advising on media relations during crises — including the management of media inquiries, the preparation of press statements, spokesperson briefing, and the monitoring of coverage to identify and respond to inaccuracies or escalating narratives.
Spokesperson Preparation
Preparing and coaching spokespersons for media appearances during crises — developing key messages, anticipating difficult questions, and building the confidence and skills needed to communicate effectively under pressure.
