After-Action Review & Lessons-Learned Integration Unit
Capturing operational experience and translating it into institutional knowledge that drives continuous improvement.
Unit Mission
The After-Action Review & Lessons-Learned Integration Unit conducts structured after-action reviews of operations, exercises, and significant incidents to capture what worked, what did not, and why. The unit manages the lessons-learned process from collection through analysis to integration — ensuring that operational experience is systematically translated into improvements in doctrine, training, planning, and equipment, and that the organisation continuously learns and adapts.
Key Functions
After-Action Review
Facilitating structured after-action reviews that create a safe environment for honest assessment — identifying what was planned, what actually happened, why there were differences, and what should be sustained or improved.
Lessons Analysis
Analysing lessons collected from operations, exercises, and incidents to identify systemic issues, recurring problems, and best practices — and to prioritise the changes most likely to improve operational effectiveness.
Integration
Managing the integration of validated lessons into doctrine, training programmes, planning processes, and equipment specifications — tracking implementation to ensure that lessons are actually applied and that improvements are sustained.
