Unit Mission
The Youth Violence & Suicide Prevention Behavioral Unit prevents youth violence and suicide — developing and implementing evidence-based behavioral interventions, crisis support systems, and community programs that reduce youth violence and suicide risk. The unit applies behavioral science, suicide prevention methodology, and violence prevention to develop the comprehensive approaches needed to address the root causes of youth violence and suicide and build the protective factors that keep young people safe.
Key Functions
Violence Prevention
Developing youth violence prevention programs — designing evidence-based interventions that address the risk factors for youth violence, build protective factors, and create the safe environments young people need to thrive.
Suicide Prevention
Implementing suicide prevention interventions — developing the crisis support systems, mental health resources, and community programs needed to identify at-risk youth and provide timely, effective support.
Community Programs
Building community-based prevention programs — engaging families, schools, and community organizations in the comprehensive prevention approaches needed to address youth violence and suicide at the community level.
