Unit Mission
The Youth LGBTQ+ Support & Inclusion Unit supports LGBTQ+ youth — developing affirming support services, safe spaces, and inclusion advocacy programs that address the unique challenges facing LGBTQ+ young people and build the accepting environments they need to thrive. The unit applies LGBTQ+ youth development, mental health support, and inclusion advocacy to develop the comprehensive approaches needed to protect LGBTQ+ youth from discrimination and violence while building the affirming communities that support their wellbeing.
Key Functions
Affirming Services
Developing LGBTQ+-affirming services — creating the mental health support, housing assistance, and social services that meet the specific needs of LGBTQ+ youth in a safe, affirming environment.
Safe Spaces
Creating safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth — developing the community centers, online platforms, and school programs that provide LGBTQ+ young people with safe, supportive environments for connection and growth.
Inclusion Advocacy
Advocating for LGBTQ+ inclusion — engaging schools, families, and communities to build accepting environments that protect LGBTQ+ youth from discrimination and support their full participation in community life.
