Unit Mission
The Youth in Foster Care Support & Outcomes Unit supports youth in foster care — developing the comprehensive services, mentorship programs, and transition support needed to improve outcomes for young people in the foster care system and build their pathways to stable, successful futures. The unit applies child welfare, youth development, and trauma-informed care to develop the approaches needed to address the unique challenges facing foster youth and ensure that the system provides the nurturing, stability, and support they need to thrive.
Key Functions
Foster Youth Support
Developing comprehensive foster youth support programs — creating the mentorship, educational support, and mental health services that address the unique challenges facing young people in the foster care system.
Transition Services
Providing transition to adulthood services — developing the life skills training, housing support, and employment assistance that help foster youth successfully transition to independent adulthood.
Outcomes Improvement
Improving foster care outcomes — analyzing system performance, identifying the interventions that most effectively improve outcomes for foster youth, and advocating for the system reforms needed to better serve young people.
