Unit Mission

The Violence Prevention & Safe Communities Analytics Unit analyzes violence patterns and develops community safety strategies — conducting violence analysis, developing evidence-based prevention programs, and building the community partnerships needed to reduce violence and create safe neighborhoods. The unit applies violence prevention science, community safety, and data analytics to develop the targeted interventions and community-led approaches that address the root causes of violence and build the social conditions for safe communities.

Violence Analysis

Analyzing community violence patterns — using data analytics to map violence concentrations, identify risk factors, and understand the dynamics that drive violence in specific communities.

Prevention Programs

Developing violence prevention programs — designing evidence-based interventions that address the risk factors for violence, build protective factors, and create the social conditions for safe communities.

Community Safety

Building community safety strategies — developing the community-led approaches, institutional partnerships, and environmental design measures needed to create safe neighborhoods where residents feel secure.
