Unit Mission
The Mental Health Community Support Network Unit builds community mental health support networks — developing the peer support programs, community mental health services, and stigma reduction initiatives needed to ensure that all community members can access the mental health support they need. The unit applies community mental health, peer support methodology, and stigma reduction to develop the grassroots approaches that bring mental health support to communities where professional services are limited or inaccessible.
Key Functions
Peer Support
Developing peer support programs — training community members as peer supporters and developing the peer-led programs that provide accessible mental health support within communities.
Community Outreach
Conducting community mental health outreach — bringing mental health education, screening, and support to community members where they are, reducing barriers to access and building mental health literacy.
Stigma Reduction
Reducing mental health stigma — developing the community education and awareness campaigns that challenge stigma, normalize help-seeking, and build the accepting environments where people feel safe to seek mental health support.
