Unit Mission

The Local Climate Resilience Projects & Microgrid Unit builds local climate resilience — developing community-based climate adaptation projects, microgrid energy systems, and neighborhood resilience initiatives that protect communities from climate impacts and ensure energy security during disasters. The unit applies climate adaptation, community energy, and resilience engineering to develop the practical solutions that build neighborhood-level resilience to climate change and extreme weather.

Key Functions

Climate Adaptation

Developing local climate adaptation projects — designing and implementing the neighborhood-level adaptations needed to protect communities from heat, flooding, and other climate impacts.

Microgrid Development

Developing community microgrids — designing and deploying distributed energy systems that provide communities with reliable, renewable energy and maintain power during grid outages and disasters.

Resilience Infrastructure

Building community resilience infrastructure — developing the physical and social infrastructure needed to maintain community function during climate extremes and disaster events.
