Unit Mission
The LGBTQ+ Community Support Unit supports LGBTQ+ community members — developing the affirming services, advocacy programs, and community-building initiatives needed to address the unique challenges facing LGBTQ+ individuals and build the inclusive communities where they can thrive. The unit applies LGBTQ+ advocacy, mental health support, and community development to develop the comprehensive approaches needed to protect LGBTQ+ rights, address discrimination, and build the affirming community spaces that support LGBTQ+ wellbeing.
Key Functions
Affirming Services
Delivering LGBTQ+-affirming services — providing the mental health support, housing assistance, and social services that meet the specific needs of LGBTQ+ community members in a safe, affirming environment.
Rights Advocacy
Advocating for LGBTQ+ rights — challenging discrimination, advancing legal protections, and building the political support needed to protect LGBTQ+ rights and advance equality.
Community Building
Building LGBTQ+ community — developing the community centers, social programs, and peer support networks that provide LGBTQ+ individuals with connection, belonging, and community support.
