Unit Mission

The Community Health & Wellness Behavioral Unit advances community health and wellness — developing the behavioral health programs, wellness initiatives, and community health promotion activities needed to improve the health of neighborhood populations and build the physical and mental resilience needed for community preparedness. The unit applies community health, behavioral medicine, and wellness promotion to develop the grassroots approaches that build healthy, resilient communities.

Wellness Programs

Developing community wellness programs — creating the fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle programs that build community members' physical health and resilience, reducing vulnerability to health emergencies.

Behavioral Health

Advancing behavioral health promotion — developing the programs that address the behavioral and mental health factors that affect community resilience, including stress management, substance use prevention, and mental wellness.

Health Behavior Change

Facilitating health behavior change — applying behavioral science to develop the community programs and social support systems that help community members adopt and maintain health-promoting behaviors.
