Unit Mission
The Civil Rights & Social Justice Advocacy Unit advances civil rights and social justice — conducting grassroots advocacy, community organizing, and legal support to challenge discrimination, advance equal rights, and build the just communities where everyone can thrive. The unit applies civil rights law, community organizing, and social justice advocacy to develop the campaigns and coalitions needed to challenge systemic injustice and advance the rights of marginalized communities.
Key Functions
Rights Advocacy
Conducting civil rights advocacy — challenging discrimination, advancing equal rights, and building the legal and political pressure needed to protect civil rights and advance social justice for marginalized communities.
Community Organizing
Building community organizing capacity — developing the grassroots organizing skills and community power needed to challenge injustice, advance policy change, and build the political voice of marginalized communities.
Legal Support
Coordinating legal support — connecting community members facing discrimination or rights violations with legal resources and representation, and supporting the legal advocacy needed for civil rights enforcement.
