Unit Mission
The Women's Rights & Gender-Based Violence Intervention Team advances women's rights and intervenes against gender-based violence — providing field protection, legal advocacy, and survivor support to women facing discrimination, violence, and rights violations. The team applies women's rights law, GBV response frameworks, and feminist advocacy to protect women from violence, advance gender equality, and hold perpetrators and states accountable for gender-based rights violations.
Key Functions
GBV Response
Providing GBV survivor support — connecting survivors with medical care, legal assistance, psychosocial support, and safe shelter, and advocating for the survivor-centered services needed to address gender-based violence.
Legal Advocacy
Advancing women's rights through legal advocacy — challenging discriminatory laws and practices, supporting strategic litigation, and engaging international human rights mechanisms to advance gender equality and accountability for GBV.
Defender Protection
Protecting women's rights defenders — providing security support, legal assistance, and advocacy for women human rights defenders who face threats and retaliation for their work advancing gender equality and women's rights.
