The Targeted VIP Protection & High-Risk Human Rights Defender Escort Unit provides protective security for human rights defenders, journalists, and civil society leaders facing targeted threats — deploying close protection teams, conducting threat assessments, and implementing security measures that enable defenders to continue their work safely. The unit applies protective security, threat assessment, and human rights defender protection frameworks to provide the physical security, digital security, and operational support needed by those who face the highest risks for their human rights work.

Close Protection
Providing close protection for high-risk human rights defenders — deploying protective security teams, conducting advance work, and implementing the security measures needed to protect defenders from targeted attacks.
Threat Assessment
Conducting threat assessments for human rights defenders — analyzing threats, identifying vulnerabilities, and developing security plans that address the specific risks facing individual defenders and organizations.
Emergency Relocation
Supporting emergency relocation of defenders at acute risk — facilitating rapid relocation to safe locations, coordinating with protection networks, and providing the support needed for defenders to continue their work from safety.
