Refugee, Asylum Seeker & Migrant Humanitarian Protection Unit
Protecting refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants from exploitation, refoulement, and rights violations.
Unit Mission
The Refugee, Asylum Seeker & Migrant Humanitarian Protection Unit protects refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants from exploitation, refoulement, and rights violations — providing legal assistance, advocacy, and operational protection to people who have been forced to flee their homes. The unit applies refugee law, migration protection, and humanitarian response to ensure that displaced people can access asylum procedures, receive protection from refoulement, and have their rights respected throughout the displacement cycle.
Key Functions
Legal Protection
Providing legal protection to refugees and asylum seekers — supporting refugee status determination, advocating against refoulement, and ensuring that displaced people can access fair asylum procedures and legal representation.
Detention Monitoring
Monitoring immigration detention conditions — inspecting detention facilities, documenting rights violations, and advocating for alternatives to detention and the release of asylum seekers held in inhumane conditions.
Durable Solutions
Facilitating durable solutions for refugees — supporting voluntary repatriation, local integration, and resettlement processes that enable refugees to rebuild their lives in safety and dignity.
