Unit Mission
The Organ Trafficking & Illicit Medical Network Tracking Team investigates organ trafficking networks and illicit transplant tourism — tracking the criminal networks that exploit vulnerable people as organ sources, documenting the medical facilities and professionals involved, and supporting the law enforcement and regulatory actions needed to dismantle illicit transplant networks. The team applies criminal investigation, medical ethics, and human rights documentation to expose organ trafficking, protect vulnerable donors, and advance the accountability and regulatory reforms needed to eliminate this form of exploitation.
Key Functions
Network Investigation
Investigating organ trafficking networks — mapping criminal networks, identifying brokers and medical facilities involved in illicit transplantation, and building the evidence needed for law enforcement action and prosecution.
Victim Protection
Identifying and protecting organ trafficking victims — documenting exploitation, connecting victims with legal assistance and medical care, and advocating for the victim protection measures needed to address organ trafficking.
Accountability Advocacy
Advancing accountability for organ trafficking — engaging medical regulators, law enforcement, and international organizations to strengthen oversight of transplant medicine and prosecute those who profit from organ trafficking.
