Unit Mission
The Gender-Based Violence Medical Forensic Protocol & Treatment Unit provides survivor-centered medical and forensic care for gender-based violence — delivering clinical treatment, forensic documentation, and psychosocial support within the human rights justice framework that connects medical care with accountability. The unit applies GBV medicine, forensic nursing, and survivor-centered care to provide the integrated medical and legal support that survivors need to access both healing and justice.
Key Functions
Clinical Care
Providing survivor-centered clinical care — delivering medical treatment, post-exposure prophylaxis, emergency contraception, and psychosocial support to survivors of sexual violence and intimate partner violence.
Forensic Documentation
Conducting forensic documentation of GBV — collecting and preserving forensic evidence, completing medico-legal documentation, and supporting survivors who choose to pursue legal accountability.
Protocol Development
Developing GBV clinical protocols — designing evidence-based clinical management protocols and training health workers in survivor-centered GBV care to scale up quality services.
