Unit Mission
The Disability Rights & Accessibility Tech Deployment Unit advances disability rights and deploys accessibility technology — advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities, documenting discrimination and rights violations, and deploying assistive technology and accessibility solutions that enable full participation in society. The unit applies the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, disability rights law, and assistive technology to advance inclusion, challenge discrimination, and build the accessible environments and systems that persons with disabilities need to exercise their rights.
Key Functions
Rights Advocacy
Advocating for disability rights — documenting discrimination, challenging inaccessible systems, and engaging international mechanisms to advance implementation of the CRPD and protect the rights of persons with disabilities.
Technology Deployment
Deploying accessibility technology — identifying and implementing assistive technology solutions that enable persons with disabilities to access information, services, and opportunities on an equal basis with others.
Inclusive Design
Advising on inclusive design — developing accessibility standards, conducting accessibility assessments, and providing the technical guidance needed to ensure that systems, services, and environments are accessible to persons with disabilities.
