Unit Mission

The Crisis Negotiation & Psychological Profiling Unit resolves human rights crises through professional negotiation and psychological profiling — applying behavioral analysis, negotiation science, and psychological assessment to understand the motivations and decision-making of key actors in crisis situations, and developing the negotiation strategies needed to achieve peaceful resolution. The unit applies crisis negotiation, behavioral psychology, and conflict analysis to provide the psychological intelligence and negotiation expertise needed to resolve hostage situations, standoffs, and other human rights crises.

Key Functions

Crisis Negotiation

Conducting professional crisis negotiations — applying evidence-based negotiation techniques to resolve hostage situations, standoffs, and other crises through dialogue, building rapport and developing the trust needed for peaceful resolution.

Psychological Profiling

Developing psychological profiles of key crisis actors — analyzing behavioral patterns, motivations, and decision-making to provide the psychological intelligence needed to develop effective negotiation strategies.

Behavioral Analysis

Applying behavioral analysis to crisis situations — assessing the psychological dynamics of crisis situations, identifying escalation risks, and advising on the behavioral interventions needed to de-escalate and resolve crises.
