Unit Mission

The Child Soldier Demobilization & Trauma Extraction Team supports the demobilization and reintegration of children associated with armed forces and groups — providing the specialized protection, trauma support, and reintegration assistance needed to help former child soldiers return to civilian life. The team applies child protection, trauma psychology, and reintegration programming to facilitate demobilization, provide trauma-informed care, and support the family reunification and community reintegration processes that enable children to rebuild their lives after armed group association.

Key Functions

Demobilization Support

Supporting child demobilization processes — facilitating the release of children from armed forces and groups, providing immediate protection and care, and initiating the reintegration process that returns children to civilian life.

Trauma Care

Providing trauma-informed care for former child soldiers — delivering age-appropriate psychological support, trauma-focused therapy, and psychosocial programming that addresses the impacts of armed group association.

Reintegration

Supporting family and community reintegration — facilitating family tracing and reunification, developing community acceptance programs, and providing the ongoing support needed for successful reintegration into civilian life.
