Unit Mission
The AI Ethics, Algorithmic Bias & Surveillance Oversight Task Force investigates algorithmic bias and AI surveillance systems — documenting the civil liberties impacts of automated decision-making, facial recognition, and predictive policing, and advocating for the regulatory frameworks needed to ensure that AI systems respect human rights. The task force applies AI ethics, algorithmic accountability, and civil liberties law to audit AI systems, document discriminatory impacts, and advance the governance frameworks needed to protect rights in the age of artificial intelligence.

Bias Documentation
Documenting algorithmic bias and discrimination — investigating the discriminatory impacts of AI systems on marginalized communities and building the evidence needed for accountability and reform.
Governance Advocacy
Advocating for AI governance frameworks — engaging regulators, legislators, and technology companies to advance the legal and technical standards needed to ensure that AI systems respect human rights and civil liberties.
