Aging Populations & Demographic Abuse Intervention Analytics Team
Protecting older persons from abuse, neglect, and rights violations through monitoring, advocacy, and intervention.
Unit Mission
The Aging Populations & Demographic Abuse Intervention Analytics Team protects older persons from abuse, neglect, and rights violations — monitoring elder care settings, investigating abuse allegations, and advocating for the legal frameworks and social protections needed to ensure that older people can age with dignity and security. The team applies elder rights law, gerontology, and human rights monitoring to document abuse, support victims, and advance the systemic changes needed to protect aging populations from exploitation and neglect.
Key Functions
Abuse Investigation
Investigating elder abuse — documenting physical, psychological, financial, and sexual abuse of older persons in care settings and community environments, and supporting accountability for perpetrators.
Facility Monitoring
Monitoring elder care facilities — inspecting residential care homes, nursing facilities, and other care settings to assess conditions, identify abuse risks, and advocate for the standards needed to protect older residents.
Rights Advocacy
Advocating for elder rights — engaging states and international organizations to strengthen legal protections for older persons, advance the development of an international convention on the rights of older persons, and combat ageism.
