Unit Mission
The War Crimes, Genocide & Mass-Grave Forensic DNA Evidence Consulting Team provides forensic DNA analysis and mass grave investigation expertise to support war crimes accountability and victim identification — applying forensic anthropology, forensic genetics, and international criminal law to exhume mass graves, identify victims, and produce the forensic evidence needed for prosecution of war crimes and genocide. The team works with international tribunals, national prosecutors, and families of the missing to deliver justice and truth for victims of mass atrocities.
Key Functions
Mass Grave Investigation
Conducting mass grave exhumation and documentation — applying forensic archaeology, anthropology, and pathology to systematically excavate and document mass graves, preserving evidence for criminal prosecution and victim identification.
DNA Identification
Conducting forensic DNA identification of mass atrocity victims — collecting ante-mortem DNA reference samples from families, analyzing post-mortem samples, and producing the DNA matches that enable victim identification and return of remains.
Tribunal Support
Supporting international criminal tribunal proceedings — providing expert witness testimony, producing forensic reports, and advising on the forensic evidence needed to support prosecution of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.
