Unit Mission
The Trauma Medicine, Hemorrhage Control & Tactical Combat Casualty Care Unit provides specialized trauma medical care and trains responders in TCCC protocols that reduce preventable deaths from hemorrhage, airway compromise, and tension pneumothorax in hostile and austere environments. The unit applies military trauma medicine, hemorrhage control science, and tactical medical training to develop the skills and equipment needed to save lives in the critical minutes before evacuation to definitive care.
Key Functions
TCCC Training
Training responders in Tactical Combat Casualty Care — delivering TCCC certification programs that build the skills needed to manage life-threatening injuries under fire, including hemorrhage control, airway management, and hypothermia prevention.
Hemorrhage Control
Implementing hemorrhage control interventions — applying tourniquets, wound packing, and junctional hemorrhage control devices to stop life-threatening bleeding in the critical minutes before evacuation to surgical care.
Outcomes Analysis
Analyzing trauma outcomes to improve care protocols — maintaining trauma registries, conducting after-action reviews, and applying lessons learned to continuously improve TCCC protocols and equipment based on real-world performance.
