Unit Mission
The Occupational Safety & Disaster-Zone Workplace Health Field Team protects workers and emergency responders from occupational hazards in disaster zones, conflict environments, and high-risk workplaces — assessing occupational health risks, implementing protective measures, and providing medical surveillance for workers exposed to physical, chemical, and biological hazards. The team applies occupational medicine, industrial hygiene, and safety engineering to identify hazards, develop protective protocols, and monitor the health of workers in the most dangerous occupational environments.
Key Functions
Hazard Assessment
Assessing occupational hazards in disaster zones and high-risk workplaces — identifying physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic hazards, measuring exposure levels, and developing risk assessments that inform protective measures.
Responder Health
Monitoring the health of emergency responders and disaster workers — conducting baseline and follow-up health assessments, tracking occupational exposures, and providing medical surveillance for the long-term health effects of disaster response work.
Protective Programs
Developing occupational health protection programs — designing PPE selection protocols, exposure control measures, and health monitoring systems that protect workers from the occupational hazards of disaster response and high-risk work environments.
