Mental Health First Aid & Crisis Psychology Field Team

Providing psychological first aid and crisis mental health response to disaster and conflict-affected populations.

Unit Mission

The Mental Health First Aid & Crisis Psychology Field Team provides psychological first aid and crisis mental health response to disaster and conflict-affected populations — deploying trained responders to deliver immediate psychosocial support, stabilize acute psychological distress, and connect affected individuals with ongoing mental health services. The team applies psychological first aid, crisis intervention, and community-based psychosocial support to address the immediate mental health needs of populations in the acute phase of humanitarian emergencies.

Key Functions

Psychological First Aid

Delivering psychological first aid to disaster and conflict-affected populations — providing immediate, non-intrusive support that addresses basic needs, promotes safety and calm, and connects affected individuals with social support and services.

Crisis Intervention

Providing crisis intervention for individuals in acute psychological distress — assessing suicide risk, managing acute stress reactions, and providing the immediate support needed to stabilize individuals in psychological crisis.

Community Support

Developing community-based psychosocial support programs — training community volunteers, establishing safe spaces, and building the community-level support systems that provide ongoing psychosocial support beyond the acute emergency phase.
