MHPSS

Maternal Health & Safe Childbirth Clinical Team

Delivering maternal health services and safe childbirth care to reduce preventable maternal and newborn mortality.

Unit Mission

The Maternal Health & Safe Childbirth Clinical Team delivers maternal health services and safe childbirth care in humanitarian and resource-limited settings — reducing the preventable maternal and newborn mortality that remains unacceptably high in conflict-affected and underserved communities. The team applies obstetrics, midwifery, and maternal health systems to provide antenatal care, skilled birth attendance, emergency obstetric care, and postnatal services that protect the lives of mothers and newborns in the most challenging environments.

Key Functions

Antenatal Services

Delivering antenatal care in humanitarian and resource-limited settings — providing pregnancy monitoring, complication screening, and health education that identify high-risk pregnancies and prepare women for safe delivery.

Emergency Obstetric Care

Providing emergency obstetric care for life-threatening complications — managing postpartum hemorrhage, eclampsia, obstructed labor, and other obstetric emergencies that are the leading causes of maternal mortality.

Newborn Care

Delivering newborn care and resuscitation — providing immediate newborn assessment, resuscitation, and care that prevent the neonatal deaths that account for a large share of under-five mortality in humanitarian settings.
