Unit Mission
The Mass Casualty Incident Rapid Triage & Relief Task Force coordinates medical response to mass casualty incidents — terrorist attacks, transportation disasters, industrial accidents, and natural disasters — applying systematic triage, resource allocation, and medical coordination to maximize survival when casualties exceed the immediate capacity of available medical resources. The task force applies disaster medicine, incident command, and mass casualty management to establish treatment sectors, manage patient flow, and coordinate the medical response across multiple agencies and facilities.
Key Functions
Incident Command
Establishing medical incident command for mass casualty events — organizing the medical response, assigning roles, and coordinating with overall incident command to ensure that medical resources are deployed effectively across the casualty field.
Triage Management
Managing mass casualty triage operations — implementing systematic triage protocols, establishing treatment sectors, and managing patient flow to ensure that the most critically injured receive priority care within available resources.
Surge Coordination
Coordinating hospital surge response — communicating casualty numbers and injury profiles to receiving hospitals, managing patient distribution, and coordinating the activation of hospital surge capacity to absorb mass casualty patient loads.
