Unit Mission
The Illicit Synthetic Drug Overdose Reversal & Tactical Response Team provides tactical medical response to synthetic opioid mass casualty incidents — deploying naloxone, managing respiratory failure, and coordinating the emergency medical response needed when illicitly manufactured fentanyl and other synthetic opioids cause mass overdose events. The team applies emergency medicine, toxicology, and harm reduction to save lives in overdose emergencies while supporting the public health and law enforcement response to synthetic drug threats.
Key Functions
Overdose Response
Providing tactical response to synthetic opioid mass overdose incidents — deploying naloxone, managing respiratory failure, and coordinating emergency medical services to reverse overdoses and prevent deaths in mass casualty drug events.
Harm Reduction
Implementing harm reduction field operations — deploying naloxone distribution, fentanyl test strips, and overdose prevention education to reduce mortality among people who use drugs in high-risk environments.
Intelligence Support
Supporting synthetic drug threat intelligence — monitoring overdose surveillance data, analyzing drug supply trends, and providing the epidemiological intelligence needed to anticipate and prepare for emerging synthetic opioid threats.
