Unit Mission

The High-Containment Field Transport & Patient Isolation Unit provides specialized transport and isolation capabilities for patients with high-consequence infectious diseases — Ebola, Marburg, Lassa fever, and other pathogens requiring BSL-3 or BSL-4 containment. The unit applies high-level isolation medicine, aeromedical transport, and biocontainment engineering to safely move and isolate patients with dangerous pathogens while protecting healthcare workers, transport crews, and the public from exposure.

Key Functions

Biocontainment Transport

Conducting aeromedical transport of patients with high-consequence infectious diseases — operating portable isolation systems that maintain BSL-3/4 containment during transport and protect crew and public from pathogen exposure.

Isolation Care

Providing medical care for patients in high-level isolation — managing clinical needs while maintaining strict biocontainment protocols that prevent pathogen release and protect healthcare workers from exposure to dangerous pathogens.

Worker Protection

Protecting healthcare workers from high-risk pathogen exposure — managing PPE selection and donning/doffing protocols, monitoring for exposure incidents, and providing post-exposure prophylaxis and monitoring when breaches occur.
