Unit Mission
The Healthcare-Associated Infection Data & Intervention Task Force develops and implements surveillance systems, data analytics, and evidence-based interventions to prevent and control healthcare-associated infections — the leading cause of preventable patient harm in healthcare settings worldwide. The task force applies infection prevention and control science, healthcare epidemiology, and quality improvement methodology to identify HAI risks, investigate outbreaks in healthcare facilities, and implement the bundle interventions needed to protect patients and healthcare workers.
Key Functions
Surveillance Analytics
Developing and operating HAI surveillance systems — collecting, analyzing, and reporting data on central line infections, surgical site infections, and other HAIs to identify trends, benchmark performance, and target improvement efforts.
Outbreak Response
Investigating HAI outbreaks in healthcare facilities — characterizing transmission dynamics, identifying infection control failures, and implementing the enhanced precautions needed to interrupt transmission and protect patients.
Prevention Programs
Implementing evidence-based HAI prevention programs — deploying bundle interventions, hand hygiene campaigns, and environmental cleaning protocols that reduce HAI rates and protect patients from preventable infections.
