Unit Mission
The Forensic Toxicology & State-Sanctioned Poisoning Analytics Team investigates suspected state-sanctioned poisonings and chemical assassinations — applying forensic toxicology, analytical chemistry, and intelligence analysis to identify the toxic agents used, attribute attacks to responsible state actors, and support accountability mechanisms. The team applies the specialized analytical capabilities needed to detect novel chemical agents, establish chain of custody for forensic evidence, and produce the authoritative technical assessments that underpin diplomatic and legal responses to state-sponsored chemical attacks.
Key Functions
Forensic Analysis
Conducting forensic toxicological analysis of suspected poisoning cases — applying advanced analytical chemistry to detect and identify novel chemical agents, establish exposure biomarkers, and produce the technical evidence needed for attribution.
Attribution Assessment
Developing attribution assessments for state-sanctioned chemical attacks — integrating forensic evidence with intelligence analysis to identify the state actors responsible for chemical poisonings and support accountability mechanisms.
OPCW Support
Supporting OPCW investigations of chemical weapons use — providing technical expertise, analytical capabilities, and forensic evidence that enables international accountability for violations of the Chemical Weapons Convention.
