Epidemiological Forecasting & Tabletop Outbreak Simulation Unit

Building pandemic preparedness through epidemiological forecasting models and high-fidelity outbreak simulation exercises.

Unit Mission

The Epidemiological Forecasting & Tabletop Outbreak Simulation Unit develops epidemiological forecasting models and conducts high-fidelity outbreak simulation exercises that build pandemic preparedness and test response systems before real emergencies occur. The unit applies mathematical epidemiology, scenario planning, and exercise design to develop realistic outbreak scenarios, stress-test response plans, and identify the capability gaps that must be addressed to ensure effective response to future pandemic threats.

Key Functions

Forecasting Models

Developing epidemiological forecasting models for pandemic preparedness — building scenario-based projections of outbreak trajectory, healthcare demand, and mortality under different pathogen characteristics and intervention assumptions.

Simulation Exercises

Designing and facilitating tabletop outbreak simulation exercises — creating realistic scenarios that test decision-making, coordination, and operational response across the full range of public health emergency functions.

Preparedness Improvement

Translating exercise findings into preparedness improvements — conducting after-action reviews, identifying capability gaps, and developing improvement plans that strengthen response systems before real emergencies occur.

Operational Capabilities

Pandemic scenario development
Epidemiological forecasting model development
Tabletop exercise design and facilitation
Response plan stress testing
Capability gap analysis
After-action review and improvement planning
