Unit Mission
The Child Soldier Demobilization & Trauma Extraction Medical Team provides medical and psychosocial support for the demobilization and reintegration of children associated with armed forces and groups — addressing the physical injuries, psychological trauma, and social disruption that children experience during armed conflict. The team applies child protection, trauma psychology, and reintegration programming to deliver the comprehensive support needed to help former child soldiers recover from their experiences and reintegrate into families and communities.
Key Functions
Medical Assessment
Conducting comprehensive medical assessment of demobilized children — identifying physical injuries, nutritional deficiencies, and health conditions requiring treatment, and providing the medical care needed to restore physical health.
Trauma Therapy
Providing trauma-focused therapy for former child soldiers — delivering age-appropriate trauma-focused CBT, play therapy, and psychosocial support that address the psychological impacts of conflict exposure and armed group participation.
Reintegration Support
Supporting family and community reintegration — facilitating family tracing and reunification, developing community acceptance programs, and providing the ongoing psychosocial support needed for successful reintegration into civilian life.
