Child Health, Nutrition & Growth Metric Task Force

MHPSS

Child Health, Nutrition & Growth Metric Task Force

Protecting child health and preventing malnutrition through systematic growth monitoring and therapeutic nutrition programs.

Unit Mission

The Child Health, Nutrition & Growth Metric Task Force protects child health and prevents malnutrition in humanitarian and resource-limited settings — conducting systematic growth monitoring, identifying acute and chronic malnutrition, and implementing therapeutic nutrition programs that prevent the stunting, wasting, and micronutrient deficiencies that impair child development and survival. The task force applies pediatric nutrition, community health, and humanitarian response to deliver the integrated child health and nutrition services needed to protect the most vulnerable children.

Key Functions

Malnutrition Screening

Conducting systematic malnutrition screening — measuring mid-upper arm circumference, weight-for-height, and other anthropometric indicators to identify children with acute malnutrition requiring therapeutic feeding.

Therapeutic Feeding

Managing therapeutic feeding programs — delivering ready-to-use therapeutic food, inpatient therapeutic feeding, and supplementary feeding to treat severe and moderate acute malnutrition and prevent malnutrition-related mortality.

Nutrition Surveillance

Operating nutrition surveillance systems — monitoring malnutrition prevalence, tracking program coverage, and providing the nutrition intelligence needed to allocate resources and evaluate program effectiveness.
