Cancer Prevention & Environmental Screening Task Force

Environmental

Cancer Prevention & Environmental Screening Task Force

Delivering cancer screening and environmental carcinogen assessment to reduce cancer burden in high-risk communities.

Unit Mission

The Cancer Prevention & Environmental Screening Task Force delivers cancer screening programs and environmental carcinogen assessments in communities with elevated cancer risk — identifying cancers at early, treatable stages and characterizing the environmental exposures that drive excess cancer burden. The task force applies oncology, environmental epidemiology, and community health to develop screening programs tailored to community-specific cancer risks, investigate environmental cancer clusters, and advocate for the regulatory interventions needed to reduce carcinogen exposure.

Key Functions

Cancer Screening

Delivering community cancer screening programs — providing cervical, breast, colorectal, and lung cancer screening in underserved communities to detect cancers at early, treatable stages and reduce cancer mortality.

Cluster Investigation

Investigating environmental cancer clusters — applying epidemiological methods to assess whether cancer rates in specific communities exceed expected levels and identify the environmental exposures responsible for excess cancer burden.

Carcinogen Assessment

Assessing environmental carcinogen exposures — characterizing community exposure to industrial chemicals, radiation, and other carcinogens to identify the environmental drivers of elevated cancer risk and inform regulatory action.
