Unit Mission
The Aeromedical Evacuation & High-Risk Patient Transport Unit executes aeromedical evacuation of critically injured and medically complex patients from austere environments, disaster zones, and conflict settings to definitive care facilities — providing the in-flight medical care needed to stabilize patients during transport and prevent deterioration. The unit applies flight medicine, critical care transport, and aeromedical operations to manage the physiological challenges of flight for critically ill patients and coordinate the complex logistics of long-range medical evacuation.
Key Functions
MEDEVAC Operations
Executing aeromedical evacuation operations — coordinating helicopter and fixed-wing MEDEVAC missions, managing patient packaging and loading, and providing in-flight critical care to stabilize patients during transport to definitive care.
In-Flight Care
Providing critical care during aeromedical transport — managing the physiological challenges of flight for critically ill patients, monitoring vital signs, and intervening to prevent deterioration during long-range medical evacuation.
Logistics Coordination
Coordinating complex MEDEVAC logistics — managing aircraft availability, coordinating with receiving facilities, and integrating aeromedical evacuation with ground medical operations to ensure seamless patient transfer.
