Unit Mission
The Sustainable Cities & Communities Policy Task Force advances sustainable cities and communities policy — developing the policy frameworks, urban governance strategies, and planning standards needed to make cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. The task force applies urban policy, sustainable development, and SDG monitoring to develop the evidence-based policies and governance frameworks needed to guide sustainable urban development and achieve SDG 11 targets.
Key Functions
Urban Policy
Developing sustainable cities policy — designing the policy frameworks and governance strategies needed to make cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable, addressing housing, transport, and urban services.
Resilience Policy
Advancing urban resilience policy — developing the policies and planning standards needed to build urban resilience to climate change, disasters, and other shocks, protecting urban populations from growing risks.
SDG 11 Monitoring
Monitoring SDG 11 progress — tracking sustainable cities indicators, assessing urban development trends, and producing the accountability reports needed to maintain political commitment to sustainable urbanization.
