The Population, Refugees & Migration Affairs Diplomatic Unit advances diplomatic solutions to refugee and migration crises — engaging governments, international organizations, and regional bodies to develop the international frameworks, burden-sharing arrangements, and durable solutions needed to protect displaced populations and address the root causes of forced displacement. The unit applies refugee law, migration diplomacy, and humanitarian advocacy to develop the diplomatic strategies that protect refugees, support host communities, and advance durable solutions to displacement.

Conducting refugee protection diplomacy — engaging governments and international organizations to strengthen refugee protection frameworks, advance burden-sharing arrangements, and develop durable solutions for displaced populations.

Migration Crisis Response

Responding to migration crises — developing the diplomatic strategies and international coordination mechanisms needed to manage large-scale displacement events and protect the rights of displaced populations.

Durable Solutions

Advancing durable solutions to displacement — developing the voluntary repatriation, local integration, and third-country resettlement programs needed to provide lasting solutions for refugee populations.
