Unit Mission
The Oceans & Polar Regions Governance Research Team researches ocean and polar governance — analyzing the legal frameworks, governance challenges, and strategic dynamics of ocean and polar regions to develop the policy recommendations needed for sustainable management of these global commons. The team applies ocean law, polar governance, and environmental policy to assess governance gaps, analyze emerging challenges, and develop the international frameworks needed for effective stewardship of ocean and polar environments.

Ocean Governance
Researching ocean governance frameworks — analyzing UNCLOS implementation, high seas governance, and marine protected area management to identify gaps and develop recommendations for more effective ocean governance.
Polar Policy
Analyzing polar governance — researching Arctic and Antarctic governance frameworks, assessing the implications of climate change for polar governance, and developing policy recommendations for sustainable polar management.
Commons Management
Advancing global commons governance — developing the international frameworks and cooperative institutions needed for sustainable management of ocean and polar resources as global commons.
