Unit Mission
The International Narcotics & Threat Mitigation Advisory Team advises on international narcotics control and threat mitigation strategies — analyzing drug trafficking networks, assessing narcotics-related threats, and developing the diplomatic and operational strategies needed to disrupt drug trafficking organizations and reduce the harms of illicit drug markets. The team applies narcotics intelligence, organized crime analysis, and international law enforcement cooperation to develop the comprehensive strategies needed to address the complex security, governance, and public health challenges posed by international drug trafficking.
Key Functions
Network Analysis
Analyzing drug trafficking networks — mapping the organizations, routes, and financial flows of international drug trafficking to identify the vulnerabilities and leverage points for effective disruption.
Counter-Narcotics Strategy
Developing counter-narcotics strategies — designing the integrated law enforcement, diplomatic, and demand reduction approaches needed to effectively address international drug trafficking and its security consequences.
Cooperation Facilitation
Facilitating international law enforcement cooperation — building the partnerships and information-sharing frameworks needed for effective multilateral action against transnational drug trafficking organizations.
