Unit Mission

The Environmental Treaty Compliance & Verification Task Force monitors and verifies compliance with international environmental treaties — developing monitoring systems, conducting compliance assessments, and supporting the enforcement mechanisms needed to ensure that states fulfill their environmental treaty obligations. The task force applies environmental law, compliance monitoring, and verification methodology to assess treaty compliance, identify violations, and develop the accountability mechanisms needed for effective environmental treaty enforcement.

Compliance Monitoring

Monitoring environmental treaty compliance — developing and operating monitoring systems that track state compliance with environmental treaty obligations, providing the data needed for compliance assessment and accountability.

Verification Systems

Developing verification systems — designing the technical and institutional mechanisms needed to verify compliance with environmental treaty commitments, including emissions monitoring, biodiversity reporting, and pollution control.

Enforcement Support

Supporting treaty enforcement — providing the compliance assessments and legal analysis needed to support enforcement actions against states that fail to meet their environmental treaty obligations.
