Unit Mission
The Emerging & Disruptive Technology Threat Mitigation Team analyzes emerging and disruptive technology threats — monitoring the development of AI, biotechnology, nanotechnology, and other emerging technologies to identify the risks they pose and develop the mitigation strategies needed to manage technological disruption. The team applies technology foresight, risk analysis, and strategic planning to assess how emerging technologies could be weaponized, misused, or cause unintended harm, and develop the governance frameworks and mitigation measures needed to manage these risks.
Key Functions
Technology Monitoring
Monitoring emerging and disruptive technologies — systematically tracking the development of AI, biotechnology, nanotechnology, and other emerging technologies to identify the risks they pose before they materialize.
Risk Assessment
Assessing emerging technology risks — evaluating the potential for emerging technologies to be weaponized, misused, or cause unintended harm, developing the risk assessments needed for informed governance and mitigation.
Mitigation Strategy
Developing technology threat mitigation strategies — designing the governance frameworks, regulatory approaches, and technical safeguards needed to manage the risks posed by emerging and disruptive technologies.
