Unit Mission

The Clean Water & Sanitation Policy Team advances clean water and sanitation policy — developing the policy frameworks, investment strategies, and governance arrangements needed to achieve universal access to safe water and sanitation and meet SDG 6 targets. The team applies water policy, WASH programming, and SDG monitoring to develop the evidence-based policies and accountability mechanisms needed to accelerate progress toward universal water and sanitation access.

Key Functions

Water Policy

Developing clean water policy — designing the policy frameworks and investment strategies needed to achieve universal access to safe drinking water, addressing the governance, financing, and infrastructure challenges.

Sanitation Policy

Advancing sanitation policy — developing the policies and programs needed to achieve universal access to safe sanitation, addressing open defecation, wastewater treatment, and hygiene promotion.

SDG 6 Monitoring

Monitoring SDG 6 progress — tracking water and sanitation indicators, assessing country performance, and producing the accountability reports needed to maintain political commitment to universal WASH access.
