Biosurveillance & Pandemic Intelligence Early Warning Team

Monitoring global disease activity and developing pandemic intelligence to provide early warning of biological threats.

Unit Mission

The Biosurveillance & Pandemic Intelligence Early Warning Team monitors global disease activity and develops pandemic intelligence — operating biosurveillance systems, analyzing disease outbreak data, and developing the early warning intelligence needed to detect natural pandemics and deliberate biological attacks before they reach catastrophic scale. The team applies epidemiological intelligence, biosurveillance methodology, and biological threat analysis to develop the early warning products that enable timely public health and security response.

Key Functions

Disease Surveillance

Operating global disease surveillance — monitoring disease activity worldwide through syndromic surveillance, laboratory networks, and open-source monitoring to detect emerging outbreaks early.

Outbreak Analysis

Analyzing disease outbreaks — assessing the epidemiological characteristics, spread dynamics, and potential impact of emerging outbreaks to inform public health and security response.

Biological Threat Warning

Providing biological threat early warning — detecting the indicators of deliberate biological attacks and natural pandemic emergence to enable timely response before threats reach catastrophic scale.
