Mission Statement
The Zoonotic Disease & Animal-to-Human Transmission Tracking Unit operates at the animal-human-environment interface to detect and characterize zoonotic spillover events before they establish sustained human transmission. The unit conducts wildlife and livestock surveillance, investigates human cases with animal exposure, and applies One Health analytical frameworks to identify the ecological and behavioral drivers of zoonotic emergence — providing the early warning intelligence needed to prevent the next pandemic.

Wildlife Surveillance
Conducting systematic surveillance of wildlife and livestock populations for pathogens with pandemic potential, sampling reservoir species and sentinel animals at high-risk human-animal interfaces.
Spillover Investigation
Investigating human cases with animal exposure to characterize zoonotic spillover events — identifying the source species, transmission pathway, and human infection risk to guide containment and prevention.
Pandemic Threat Assessment
Applying One Health analytical frameworks to assess the pandemic potential of emerging zoonotic pathogens — evaluating transmissibility, virulence, immune escape, and the ecological conditions driving emergence.
