Mission Statement
The Refugee, Asylum Seeker & Migrant Humanitarian Protection Unit protects the rights of refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants — ensuring access to asylum procedures, documenting rights violations, and advocating for the legal frameworks that protect people on the move. The unit monitors reception conditions, documents pushbacks and refoulement, provides legal support to individuals in asylum proceedings, and advocates for durable solutions that address the root causes of forced displacement.
Key Functions
Asylum Access Monitoring
Monitoring access to asylum procedures at borders and reception facilities — documenting pushbacks, summary returns, and procedural barriers that prevent individuals from exercising their right to seek protection.
Legal Support
Providing legal support to refugees and asylum seekers in protection proceedings — case preparation, legal representation coordination, and appeals support for individuals facing rejection or deportation.
Durable Solutions Advocacy
Advocating for durable solutions to refugee situations — voluntary repatriation, local integration, and third-country resettlement — and for the root cause interventions that reduce forced displacement.
