Mission Statement
The Maritime Crime, High-Seas Piracy & Illegal Fishing Analytics Unit monitors and responds to the full spectrum of maritime criminal activity — from high-seas piracy and armed robbery at sea to illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing that devastates ocean ecosystems and the livelihoods of coastal communities. The unit provides intelligence to naval and coast guard partners, supports prosecution of maritime criminals, and advocates for stronger ocean governance frameworks.
Key Functions
Piracy Intelligence
Monitoring high-risk maritime corridors for piracy activity, providing real-time intelligence to naval assets and commercial shipping operators to enable threat avoidance and rapid response.
IUU Fishing Detection
Analyzing vessel tracking data, satellite imagery, and port records to identify illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing operations, supporting enforcement action by coastal state authorities.
Ocean Governance Advisory
Advising international bodies and coastal states on strengthening maritime law enforcement frameworks, port state control measures, and regional cooperation agreements to combat maritime crime.
