Hurricane, Cyclone & Coastal Surge Strike Team
Delivering life-saving response in the immediate aftermath of hurricane and tropical cyclone landfall.
Mission Statement
The Hurricane, Cyclone & Coastal Surge Strike Team pre-positions and deploys to deliver immediate life-saving response in the hours and days following hurricane and tropical cyclone landfall. The team conducts search and rescue operations in surge-inundated coastal communities, coordinates mass care for displaced populations, and supports the rapid restoration of essential services — working in the degraded infrastructure environment that follows major tropical storm events.
Key Functions
Post-Landfall Rescue
Conducting search and rescue operations in surge-inundated coastal communities in the immediate post-landfall period, using boats, helicopters, and foot teams to reach isolated survivors.
Debris Field Operations
Operating in the heavily debris-laden environment following hurricane landfall, navigating destroyed infrastructure to reach survivors and clear critical routes for emergency vehicle access.
Pre-Landfall Coordination
Supporting pre-landfall evacuation operations — coordinating transportation for mobility-impaired residents, establishing shelter-in-place protocols, and pre-positioning response assets for immediate post-landfall deployment.
